I went to my computer that night to escape thinking too much, or at least to force myself to think about things that didn't matter. See, when you're on the computer, you get really good at what they call multitasking, and usually the tasks you have to multi are so pointless you can have endless hours without a single useful thought. It's great.

Poetry Friday
I think more people should be reading it but maybe fewer people should be writing it, ...there's an abundance of unreadable poetry out there.

All You Need is Love

Cats also don't laugh out loud, but when a cat executes a prank successfully, it always seems pretty pleased about it.

Poetry Friday

Poetry is a rich, full-bodied whistle, cracked ice crunching in pails, the night that numbs the leaf, the duel of two nightingales, the sweet pea that has run wild, Creation's tears in shoulder blades.

Today's a Day to Celebrate!
It is not merely for to-day, but for all time to come that we should perpetuate for our children's children this great and free government, which we have enjoyed all our lives. I beg you to remember this, not merely for my sake, but for yours. I happen temporarily to occupy this big White House. I am a living witness that any one of your children may look to come here as my father's child has. It is in order that each of you may have through this free government which we have enjoyed, an open field and a fair chance for your industry, enterprise and intelligence; that you may all have equal privileges in the race of life, with all its desirable human aspirations.Monday, January 19, 2009

Poetry Friday--O, Yes!

O, let America be America again--
The land that never has been yet--
And yet must be--the land where every man is free.

a little more room

The Fearsome Brussels Sprout

We kids feared many things in those days - werewolves, dentists, North Koreans, Sunday School--but they all paled in comparison with Brussels sprouts.

Sunday's Kat Kwote

The naming of cats is a difficult matter. It isn't just one of your holiday games.
A cat is not like dog--if it wants to come when you call it, you can call it anything! If it doesn't want to come it won't, and that's all there is to it! I'm afraid Eliot would have been better off playing a game or two! --KK

The Silver Lining to Our Current Economic Crisis?
We can no longer allow the money economy to grow like a cancer on our society, until it takes over all facets of life. The economy needs to serve people, communities, and the health of natural systems, not the other way around. Instead of relying on footloose unaccountable global corporations, we can turn to local and regional production to serve our needs and provide sustainable employment, including small and medium-sized businesses, co-ops, farmer’s markets, and so on.
